Who we are
Murti Global is a licensed CPA firm in Richmond, Virginia. This policy explains what personal information we collect through murtiglobal.com, our client portal and our services, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. When you become a client, your engagement letter may add terms specific to your work with us.
Information we collect
What you give us. Your name, email address, phone number and, for businesses, the business name. When you work with us, the tax and financial documents you upload or hand us (such as W-2s, 1099s, statements and IRS letters), the details you share in messages and consultations, and anything else you choose to tell us about your situation.
Payment details. Card payments are handled by Stripe. Your full card number goes straight to Stripe and never reaches our systems. We keep only what we need to recognize a card, such as its brand, last four digits and expiry date.
Sign-in and security records. When you sign in to the client portal we record the time, your IP address and browser, so we can keep your account secure and investigate misuse.
From services you choose to use. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email address. We don’t ask for access to anything else in your Google account. When we act for you, we may also receive information from the IRS, state tax agencies or other parties you authorize.
How we use your information
- To provide the services you ask for: preparing and filing returns, bookkeeping, tax planning, responding to notices and advice.
- To schedule and hold consultations, and to send confirmations, reminders and receipts.
- To take payments you’ve agreed to and keep our financial records.
- To run the client portal, including secure messages and document uploads.
- To protect your account and our systems, and to meet our legal and professional obligations.
Tax return information. Federal law (Internal Revenue Code section 7216) limits how tax preparers may use and disclose information gathered to prepare your return. We use it to prepare and file your return and provide related services. We don’t use it for any other purpose, or disclose it to anyone else, without your written consent, except where the law allows or requires it.
We don’t send marketing emails, and we never sell or rent your personal information.
How we protect it
- Everything you send through this site travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
- Client documents are kept in a private SharePoint site that only our team can reach, through this site.
- Client portal sign-in uses your password and a code we email to you each time, or Google sign-in. Staff sign in with an authenticator app as well as a password.
- Access to client documents is logged, and staff can see only what their role allows.
No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we’ll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep client records, including returns and supporting documents, for at least seven years after the work they relate to, or longer where the law or a professional standard requires it. Consultation and inquiry records are kept as long as needed for our records and then deleted. When we no longer need information, we delete or destroy it securely.
Your choices
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that’s wrong or out of date;
- delete information we no longer need to keep.
Some records we must keep by law, even if you ask us to delete them. Clients can update their details by sending a message in the client portal. Anyone can write to us at info@murtiglobal.com.
Children
This site isn’t meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them through it. When a parent or guardian gives us information about a dependent to prepare a return, we protect it in the same way as all client information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services change. We’ll post the new version here with its effective date and, if the changes are significant, let clients know. Our terms of service explain the rules for using this site and our services.
